Spare Tire Not Identified As For Temporary Use

Recall Details

The spare tire equipped in the vehicle may not be properly labeled as for "temporary use".  Owners were provided a caution label and insert for their owners manual free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The spare tire that the vehicle is equipped with may not be marked as a "temporary use" spare tire. This could mislead a driver using the spare tire in thinking it is not for temporary use. Temporary use spare tires will exhibit different driving characteristics than a full size tire.

What Should You Do?

Toyota notified owners of affected vehicles starting in July 2002. You can check with your dealer to see if your vehicle is involved in this program. It is helpful to have your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on hand when you contact them.
