So do I take the main battery out first or the auxiliary battery out first when replacing or recharging correct procedure please
What makes this problem better or worse?
Mechanic that was working on it left it sit out in the cold for a month without doing anything with the batteries so they died

Any battery that is found to be low in charge or completely discharged needs attention; testing should be performed to find out state of charge and the ability to sustain a load. I do not see a need to remove either battery; I would suggest either and both may be charged by removing the battery cables and attaching charger cables. You may find that any battery left discharged for weeks may not be able to be recharged to a useful level.
