Symptoms of a bad alternator on my 08 land rover lr2

Okay when I push my key in....press my brake den push my button to start It....like literally every thing comes on but it just won't start...see after I try to start it all I c on the dash board is a flashing red battery...but it goes off as I let it go.....no leaks no noises

How long has your 2008 Land Rover LR2 had this problem?

I really wudnt having no problems that I cud tell...one afternoon I was gettin ready to leave for work....then all of a sudden I go to start it and it instantly killed and literally the only noise I heard was like a battery dat jus went dead ....but everything comes on it just won't start
