Volkswagen CC key locked in ignition and unable to remove on Volkswagen CC

Problem overview

Some Volkswagen CC owners report experiencing issues with their keys getting stuck in the ignition, which can be caused by a worn ignition cylinder or debris in the ignition area. These owners have found that jiggling the key lightly may help release it without breaking. Additionally, some have discovered that the steering wheel lock being engaged can prevent the key from turning and being removed, so checking this is advisable. In cases where the key breaks off in the ignition, some owners have successfully used a paperclip to extract the broken piece. Others have noted that a release button located on the ignition switch cover can assist in removing the key when pressed while turning it.
