Nissan Versa rain water intrusion issue on passenger side due to poor drainage on Nissan Versa

Problem overview

Some Nissan Versa owners report experiencing rainwater intrusion issues on the passenger side, resulting in flooding of the front cab and trunk carpet due to poor drainage systems. This problem is often attributed to a design flaw that allows the inner drainage system to become easily blocked by leaves and debris, causing water to overflow behind the dashboard. To mitigate this issue, Nissan initiated a Voluntary Service Campaign for certain 2008-2009 Versa Sedan and Hatchback models, providing a sill cover plate installation at no charge to prevent water intrusion. Accumulated water from flooding can lead to corrosion of wires under the floor, potentially causing significant damage to the vehicle. Cleaning the drains and inspecting the windshield may not always resolve the issue, and clogged A/C drain tubes can further exacerbate the flooding. It is crucial for owners to address water intrusion promptly to avoid long-term damage and maintain the vehicle's integrity.
