Problem overview

Some Land Rover LR4 owners report experiencing excessive motor RPM at startup, which does not return to normal idle promptly. This high RPM issue may be attributed to the vehicle's computer system needing time to adjust to various conditions, such as temperature or engine wear. Many owners note that RPM can rise significantly on cold starts, sometimes exceeding 3000 RPM before gradually decreasing. In certain cases, RPM may spike to 4500 RPM during warm-up, indicating potential problems with the engine's idle control system. Additionally, some owners have encountered "restricted performance" messages linked to throttle body issues, which can lead to reduced power output. To mitigate the high RPM issue, adjusting the base idle speed with a 3/16" Hex wrench to stabilize it between 550 to 650 RPM may prove beneficial. If these problems persist, it is recommended to consult a qualified mechanic or Land Rover specialist for proper diagnosis and resolution.
