Problem overview

Some Jeep Patriot owners report experiencing a persistent ticking sound from the top engine even after servicing, which may be attributed to several potential issues. Low oil levels or pressure can lead to engine ticking noises, resulting in accelerated wear due to oil starvation. Additionally, problems with the ignition system or exhaust leaks may contribute to this noise. A failing drive belt idler pulley can also cause a chirping sound from the front of the engine due to a worn bearing. Other factors such as exhaust system issues, spark plug problems, low oil pressure, valve train wear, a faulty purge solenoid, and dry U-joints and CV joints can further exacerbate the ticking sound. Owners are advised to check the serpentine belt for fraying and inspect the pulleys for play to identify any issues with bad bearings that could be causing the noise. If the ticking persists, further investigation into these potential causes is necessary to effectively address the issue.
