Jeep Patriot recurring control arm knocking sound issue on Jeep Patriot

Problem overview

Some Jeep Patriot owners report experiencing a recurring control arm knocking sound, often attributed to loose control arm bushings, particularly in models with stock lower control arms. Additionally, issues may arise if upper control arms are changed while the vehicle is still on jack stands, rather than at ride height. Some owners find that replacing motor mounts and front lower control arms with new ball joints does not always eliminate the knocking sound, especially if the CV axles also require replacement. It is also common for wear in spherical bushings on the upper, lower, and toe link at the rear of the vehicle to contribute to these noises. While changing control arms, sway bars, sway bar links, and motor mounts can help reduce clunking sounds, careful attention to each component is necessary for a complete resolution. Furthermore, front noise issues may stem from control arm bolts that are not torqued to specification, which can lead to shifting of the front end and potential damage if not addressed promptly.
