GMC Terrain burning oil issue related to GM recall on GMC Terrain

Problem overview

Some GMC Terrain owners report experiencing excessive oil consumption issues, which are linked to a GM recall concerning the 2.4-liter EcoTech engines in model years 2010-2017. These owners allege that a defectively designed piston and piston ring assembly is the root cause of the problem, leading some vehicles to burn a quart of oil for every 1,000 miles driven. Additionally, a GM oil consumption settlement has been approved for customers of 2010-2013 models, and General Motors has agreed to provide free diagnoses and repairs for affected vehicles, along with full reimbursement for those who previously paid for piston assembly replacements.
