Some Chevrolet Volt owners report experiencing the "Shift to Park" error due to a faulty micro switch in the console, which is a common issue in models manufactured between 2013/2014 and 2019. This malfunction prevents drivers from powering the vehicle, triggering the error message when the micro switch fails. While General Motors has proposed a repair method involving cleaning the switch contacts and adding a jumper to ground the faulty switch, previous attempts to resolve the issue by replacing the shifter or switch have proven ineffective. Some owners have found temporary relief by nudging the shifter while in Park to stop the error message from appearing. Additionally, there have been lawsuits against GM and Chevrolet over this issue, with claims that vehicles cannot be turned off after shifting into Park, resulting in battery drainage and related problems. Although pushing the switch hard may provide a short-term fix, it is not considered a viable long-term solution.
