BMW 325Ci convertible top not opening due to windows not lowering on BMW 325Ci

Problem overview

Some BMW 325Ci owners report experiencing issues with their convertible top not opening because the windows do not lower. These problems may stem from the convertible top failing to unlatch properly, resulting in no movement or sound when attempting to operate it. Additionally, a red blinking button can indicate that the CVM (convertible module) has stored a fault code, which locks out the operation of the top. To troubleshoot, some owners have found that resetting the roof by turning the key to position two and holding the button down for about 10 seconds can help retract the latches and raise the windows. If the top still does not open, following the initialization procedure by moving the convertible top switch to the "open" position and turning the ignition lock to the "R" setting may be necessary.
