Identifying an OBD code is just the start of a complete diagnostic routine. Most trouble codes are caused by a sensor reporting a value that is out of range. Some vehicles equipped with automatic transmission will give the driver the option of selecting the desired gear while driving, known as TAP Shifting. The shifter will usually either have a + and - button on it, or shift side to side when in Drive. If the downshift switch does not function correctly, code P2779 will set and the TAP Shift function will be disabled.
