    OBD-II Code Engine may overheat is defined as a Engine Oil Over Temperature

    The engine control module (PCM) uses an Engine Oil Temperature Sensor to determine the temperature of the engine oil. If the Engine Oil gets too hot, the PCM will set code P0298.

    Engine may overheat Symptoms

    • Engine may enter limp home mode (reduced performance)
    • Engine may overheat

    Common Problems That Trigger the P0298 Code

    • Clogged engine oil cooler
    • Engine oil level is too low
    • Excessive engine performance requested by the driver
