I have a knocking noise when in park. What is causing this noise?

When I open the hood it sounds like some type of minor rattling or knocking noise that is at the top of the engine. This noise occurs every time the car is in park. My wife says it sounds like a tractor trailer truck. One certified land rover mechanic told me it could be bad oil used in the past. I need help. Thx

We can do a "no charge assessment" of the car to tell you what's going on -- it's possible "bad oil used in the past" (or frankly "NO OIL used in the past" as that can cause very serious engine damage and you could have actual serious "top end" engine problems -- have you owned the car since new? How many miles on it? Please bring it by Markert Motor Works -- we are just up the road in Lawrenceville. We can do a no charge assessment and if it requires further analysis (i.e. taking the top of, compression, etc) we can let you know.
