Someone drove my car and ran it out of gas. Since then the fuel gauge wasn't accurate. However now it isn't working at all. A mechanic told me that the fuel pump would need to be replaced. Parts and labor around $500. Would this fix the problem?
Fuel gauge is all over the place. After filling up, the gauge goes to empty, the fuel light and bell activate for about the first 20 miles before shutting off and reading above empty. Replaced the sending unit.
Guage does not work, always reports tank as empty. According to my mechanic I need to replace the fuel pump, $681.00 parts and labor.
