2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser - 2.4L 4 Cylinder 55,000 mi,
As many have already stated, my car is in perfect condition other than this issue. For the last two months or so, the engine randomly shuts off while driving. Sometimes it doesn't even shut off--all of the gauges will start moving up and down as if it's struggling to stay on. Sometimes it'll end up being fine, others it's constantly struggling, and other times it just keeps turning off while driving. Sometimes it does this as soon as I start it, sometimes it'll do it after I've been driving for a while, and sometimes it won't even happen for weeks at a time. I have no idea what the problem is, but it always restarts perfectly fine.

Our PT Crusier has been dying while driving 55/60 mph. We thought fuel pump, but after letting the cruiser sit for 10 mins or more, it may start back up. This problem has been going on for about 2 mos or so. Battery is brand new and had fluids, oil, and a seal for transmission leak done in Feb. Of this year. We have tried afew gas treatments to try and clean fuel filter and the cruiser still has dead since. Not been using the heat, thinking this could be a reason. Would appreciate any input or if there'0s recalls for this type of problem please post. Thank you.

The engine randomly shuts off while driving my 2001 PT Cruiser Limited Edition. I have no idea what the problem is. The car will even shut off after starting and idling for a few minutes, but will start back up right away most of the time but sometimes you may have to wait a few minutes before it will start. Issue not fixed but would like to know a resolution if possible.

When pulling to a complete stop the car wants to turn off. A couple of times the car turned off while I was driving down the road.

THE CAR BEGAN JUST DYING...I COULD TURN THE KEY AGAIN AND IT WOULD COME ON....USUALLY THE CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING THAT DAY...WHILE I WAS OUT IT HAPPENED......
THEN IT BEGAN DOING IT WHEN I FIRST WENT OUT IN THE MORNING...
THEN ONE OF MY SONS SAID TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND PUSH IT ALITTLE...IT WOULD START....THEN CAME THE DAY WHEN IT WOULDN'T START EVEN WHEN PUSHED...THE SONS CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE 5 YEAR OLD BATTERY TERMINALS NEEDED TO BE CLEANED THEN I WENT AHEAD AND HAD A NEW BATTERY PUT IN....IT DIED AS I FIRST STARTED IT AT THE BATTERY STORE...THEN IT RAN FOR ABOUT 10 DAYS WITHOUT DYING AT ALL.....ONE TIME..THE DAY I PURCHASED THE BATTERY..BEFORE I GOT IT...THE CAR HAD FOR THE FIRST TIME DIED WHILE I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORKOUT....I PUT IT FROM DRIVE BACK TO PARK AND TRIED IT ..AND IT STARTED UP.....
NOW MY SONS THINK IT IS EITHER THE IGNITION SWITCH OR THE INHIBITOR SWITCH ON THE TRANSMISSION...A SAFETY FEATURE WHICH INHIBITS THE STARTING OR WILL ACTUALLY TURN OFF THE CAR WHILE DRIVING......YESTERDAY, THE CAR DIED FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 10 DAYS...I WAS AT A RED LIGHT...THE CAR SHUT OFF...DASH LIGHTS ALL CAME ON...I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND STARTED IT...IT STARTED RIGHT UP....MY SON-IN-LAW, SERVICE MANAGER AT HUNDAI...WANTS ME TO WAIT UNTIL I GO OUT AND IT WILL NOT TURN ON...THAT TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND START IT ...I AM WAITING FOR THIS SCENARIO TO HAPPEN...

I have been having issues where my car will start and then shut right back off, or I will have to change the position of the steering wheel and play around with it. I thought maybe I needed a new ignition switch. I had the mechanics replace it as well as my battery. They also checked my alternator but found no issue with that. After the replacements, if worked fine for a few weeks and now is doing the same thing as before. The mechanics can't seem to figure out what is causing this. Any suggestions?

2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser - 2.4L 4 Cylinder 94,000 mi,
I tried starting my car and the car would not start.I thought maybe it was because I needed a oil change or I left my headlights on in the rain.I checked the oil and it was at minimum. So I had my car jumped and it started, so I went strait to Walmart.Walmart said the battery was good.I got an oil change. This morning my car did not start.I know I did not leave the lights on.I checked it was not left on.Now I think I should take the PT to a full service shop it could be the starter.

2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser - 2.4L 4 Cylinder 94,529 mi,
It first started with sputtering, the then oil light coming on- even though the oil has been changed. Now the engine light comes on and the car shuts off by itself.

2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser - 2.4L 4 Cylinder 80,000 mi,
Engine shuts off due to a high current draw from the electric radiator fan. I changed to an after market fan which introduced this problem. I solved it by inserting a second relay into the fan circuit. The low speed fan circuit hot lead at the fan harness now energizes a second relay which powers the fan directly from the battery. The ground to the fan is unchanged. My guess is that others are having this problem with stock fans that are getting old and are drawing more current.

2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser - 2.4L 4 Cylinder 40,000 mi,
Ive been having what seems like an unfixable problem with my 08 pt cruiser since the day we test drove it. My mom was so infatuated with the car til she just HAD to get it and argued with me about it bc the car was for me but at the time she funded more $$$ than I did so she decided on that one. When test driving the car, it cut off.. the dealer told her that it was bc the car was sitting for a while and assured us that it would be ok. Soon after it kept cutting off. The gauges would go crazy and the engine would shut off. We took it back the guy said it did that bc the engine fell on top of some wiring. We got it back and it STILL did the same thing , they kept the car for several days inspecting it and all they could do was give it an oil change since they could not figure out what was wrong with it. Those mechanics and every one after that could not seem to figure out wtf is wrong with this piece of shit car. Ive replace the battery, the computer, the ground wires trying to fix this problem not to mention all of the other work I put into bc it seems to depreciate so quickly with everything & its not even good on gas. I HATE THIS CAR. I risk my life everytime I get in it bc it constantly cuts off everyday, in traffic, on the freeway, in the driveway,etc.. PLEASE HELP ME!!!! I ran into another pt cruiser owner who is having this same issue with her 07 model. she shared with me that she has taking it to many different people and even 3 dealerships and no one knows anything :(

2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser - 2.4L 4 Cylinder
The car wouldn't start. Then, when it started it seemed to be dragging itself. The next time I tried it didn't start at all.I asked my son in law to check it out. He couldn't drive it because the brake was stuck. He got the brake loose and it's in the shop. The guy wants 2000. to fix it. He even wants to give me a new battery- which I just got one, recently. I don't know what to do.

While driving on a highway my engine just shut down. Very scary and dangerous. Vehicle regained power about a mile later (while I was coasting and shifting lanes to get to the side). If others are encountering this same problem then perhaps there should be some sort of fix, recall or general safety warning notice issued.

2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser - 2.4L 4 Cylinder 59,765 mi,
problem started of with sensors saying P0037 so we changed both sensors; senors 1 and 2 now it says both are bad and was told computer failing . Seems like its a ongoing problem even though the car is running great . Is this 02 sensor problem on recall Its been going on since 2009 or better

2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser - 2.4L 4 Cylinder
Running 65 mph down the road and the engine just died. Will not start now and no idea why it is doing this. Can hear fuel pump running. Starter is fine and Battery is charged. Cant anyone answer the question to why this is doing this?

2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser - 2.4L 4 Cylinder 73,000 mi,
Have had the Catalytic Converter, the Upstream and Downstream Oxygen sensors replaced, the Crank Sensor, the Cam Positioning Sensor and now ALL four fuel injectors replaced. This is STILL happening. The check engine light comes on, indicating the O2 Sensors heaters are not communicating with the PCM (which was replaced last year) Something is draining the battery (last year replaced the Starter, Alternator & battery) and the check engine light was coming on until the brain was replaced. This is now the second chronic problem and has been going on for nearly a month. After the Fuel injectors it was good for 2 days and had been drive 50 miles just to start again yesterday. It's at the dealership, they thought it was the wires between the brain and the oxygen sensors (that one must have a break in it and it's shorting) but that turned out not to be it. Does ANYONE have an idea wtH is going on?

2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser - 2.4L 4 Cylinder 113,000 mi,
I can be driving down the road and the gauges light up it jerks a few times shuts off and shuts back on instantly. Basically it dies for seconds at times and then sometimes it just dies. I'm not real sure what to do about it since I replaced the computer in it in 2012. So I'm stuck. They do need a recall on this car.
