Problem: creaking and later popping noises from front end when driving over uneven roads and speed bumps. There was also some front end instability which showed up as a tendency to wander slightly on freeways.

I was concerned about worn ball joints which can be very dangerous if there is a failure at high speed. A reputable car shop told me they were fine, but the noise worsened so I replaced them myself with new ball joints purchased from a Lexus dealer. The old ones were hard to get out, and I had the car re-aligned after the repair.

The old ball joints were VERY worn with a lot of looseness and play. After replacing the ball joints all the front end problems disappeared. No more creaking, no popping and steering stability was fully restored.
Only does this from time to time depending on road surface. I'm sure my entire suspension is still all original, I really can't complain.
i replaced sway bar bushings 20k miles ago, along with most front end parts. mechanic suggested rack/pinion bushings is the problem. Planning to get it inspected by master mechanic
I have been hearing this type of creaking noise lately. It doesn't happen constantly, but I do need to get it checked out.
