Community Guidelines

RepairPal is here to take the mystery out of auto repair. In order to do this, we have a network of RepairPal Certified shops ready to fix your car in a fair and transparent way. On top of that, we also have a great group of committed community members across multiple platforms ready to interact through RepairPal. That’s where you come in.

Our community members can range from the experienced mechanic, to the first-time car owner, to the RepairPal Certified auto shop! The views and opinions expressed by these members are not necessarily endorsed by RepairPal.

In order to keep the RepairPal community engine running, we have come up with some basic guidelines for all of our users. We expect our users to abide by these guidelines and our terms of service.

Stick to the basics

Since RepairPal community members range in expertise and knowledge, it is important to write in complete sentences and explain, explain, explain! Try to stay away from language that the average consumer might not understand and always remember that your answer could be used as a resource for many RepairPal community members for years to come!

Let's do some role play. Suppose Jill, a community member, asks "What could be causing my car to leak oil?"

Awesome response: Might be able to help you out Jill! Sounds like that oil leak is stemming from the need to replace the valve cover gasket and seals (more info here: http://repairpal.com/valve-cover-gasket-set). You can actually use the RepairPal estimator tool (www.repairpal.com/estimator) to figure out where to go near you and how much it will cost. Good luck!

Not so awesome response: idk might be this www.youtube.com/xhiagh397r8293732_

General standards

Here are some basic guidelines we recommend to our community members:

Respect: Keep it respectful when interacting with other community members. Be considerate when asking/answering a question and respect other points of view.

Language: Stick to clean language when posting. No profanities. Do not forget to use complete sentences and full descriptions or you risk your posting being removed due to members' inability to understand!

Legal: Do not post content that is considered illegal or harmful to others. This includes posts that defame or threaten other users, and/or contain personal, private information.

On topic: RepairPal is a place to talk about all things automotive. This probably is not the right place for your lemon bar recipe.

No spam/ads: Our forum and social channels are not a place for advertising products or services. Keep the content useful and helpful.

Help make RepairPal a great online community without harassment based on: race, color, ethnicity, nationality or physical characteristics, gender or sexual orientation, religion or non-religious viewpoints (i.e. secular humanism, atheism), political opinion, socioeconomic status, age, physical, mental or intellectual disability/impairment, and the ways people express themselves.

Removal

RepairPal reserves the right to remove posts for any reasons, including, but not limited to, any posts that:

  • Are considered likely to disrupt, provoke, attack or offend others
  • Are racist, sexist, homophobic, sexually explicit, abusive or otherwise objectionable
  • Contain swear words or other language likely to offend
  • Break the law or condone or encourage unlawful activity (including breach of copyright, defamation, and contempt of court)
  • Advertise products or services
  • Are seen to impersonate someone else
  • Describe or encourage activities which could endanger the safety or well-being of others
  • Are considered to be "spam", that is posts containing the same, or similar, message posted multiple times
  • Are considered trolling
  • Are considered to be irrelevant to the topic or post
  • Are difficult to understand or incomplete in nature

RepairPal will reach out to users who violate these guidelines. Depending on the violation or if the violation persists, RepairPal may remove the user from the community on all platforms.
