The engine light is on due to some issue with the gas cap however, I bought a new gas cap but the light it is still on.
I have the same code coming up with the gas cap. I have tried changing the cap but the light still is on. I took it to get the smoke test and there were no leaks and no one seems to have any idea to what is wrong with it. If anybody has any details or similar situations I would love to hear what it was and how to fix it.
check engine light keeps coming on for a PO455(i think this was the no.) and it said evap leak large. I look around my fuel cap and there is raw fuel all over the seal, no matter how tight I tighten it, there is always some gas around the outer fuel cap. Changed cap 4 times. Check engine with same code keeps coming on.
I replaced the gas cap, filler neck, purge solenoid, all fuel lines, and filter and that check engine light never goes off even if I disconnect battery for a day, it comes back on after a few miles.
gasket on original gas cap got cracks in it and did not seal sufficiently well. Also have to make sure to click it down 3 times to get the new one to seal properly. New cap did not have nice connector strap either. Check engine light would come on and had the code checked for free at the parts store and they told me what it could be so did the cheapest fix first after finding the cracks and that fixed the light coming on problem.
The check engine light comes on and off on my 2004 cavalier. It is a P0455 code I think which is an emissions leak. I changed the gas cap once, check engine light still on. Not sure if it is a larger problem or not. Luckily I don't have emissions testing where I live or I would be in trouble.
The check engine light kept on going on and off. When I finally replaced the cap ($8 at Autozone) the whole cycle stopped.
pulled in to station got gas then for two mounths check engine lite stayed on ,got computer tool and it said gas leak, then got gas one nite and lost gas cap,and got new one next day and two days later lite went out.
Check Engine light came on, took the car to get it diagnosed. Turned out to be the gas cap. Replaced and the light turned off.
Replaced initially with aftermarket cap. Did not correct problem. Bought OEM cap and code went away.
I really remember what the mileage was but this did happen i had to payfor the scan at 75.00 for a $7.00 fix.... ugh.... took it to dealer in easton,md
