Problem overview

Some Isuzu Rodeo owners report experiencing transmission issues that restrict driving to winter mode, preventing operation in power mode. This situation often arises because the winter mode is designed to limit power to the drive wheels for better traction in icy conditions, starting the vehicle off in 2nd gear. Owners have noted that if the transmission slips while in winter mode, it may not necessarily indicate a shift solenoid failure, suggesting the need for further testing to accurately diagnose the problem. Additionally, it is crucial to check the transmission fluid level if the vehicle is not shifting properly or fails to engage gears. In older models, accidental activation of the winter mode button, located between the shifter and console, can lead to this issue, and simply pressing the button again can restore standard operation. If these problems persist, further diagnostics may be necessary.
