Air Pump Valve on Subaru Impreza WRX

Problem Description and Possible Solution

The air pump rusts out causing the the valves to get stuck open or closed. This appears to happen more frequently around wet areas (snow or humid). There are two valves; for the first one all you need to remove is the inter-cooler, the second valve is between the intake manifold and engine block.

Secondary air pump valves rusted open as it spent most of its life in Houston, TX. Needed to replace both at a cost of over $3,000 at an independent Subaru shop since the car had the CEL and needed to be smogged once registered in California.
Air intake valves appear to be rusting and failing to function properly. Caused check engine light to come on. Need to be replaced so looking for stainless option so it won't occur again.
