I have a 2004 Toyota Solara Convertible love the car It also leaks on the drivers side after a wash or rain storm. But my main question is when we first start the car most of the time I get a big cloud of white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. But as it warms up no smoke but shut it off and let it sit for 1 hr or more start up and white smoke Thanks Woody

Toyoyta settled a lawsuit involving several models 1997 to 2002 years regarding excessive engine oil sludge. In most cases you will not know you have this problem unless you take it to a dealer for a tear down (cost about $105), but if your car has the problem it costs you nothing and Toyota will issue a case number and fix it free. Warranted unlimited mileage/8 years on this problem. Kudos to Toyota for acknowledging their issues and ordering recalls on their vehicles. I love this car and appreciate Toyota NOT IGNORING customers complaints. And despite problems in 2010 will only buy Toyota products now because they don't leave the customer to bear the expense of engineering errors.

2008 Toyoata Solara Convertible. I can't say that I am pleased with my Solara. I brought it in march 2010 with only 4600 miles on it. Within the first month, the front it shimmy's like it is going out, the tires don't hold air very well, the roof leaks when it rains or you wash it and the gas mileage for a small engine is only around 23 miles to the gallon outside of the city. Now we have to find a good honest Toyota dealer to have it looked at.

I have a 2000 Toyota Solara SLE (V-6) and I love this car!! It has 224k. and still kickin!! Of course all of the standard maintance needs have been met when they were needed. (oil, fluids, etc.) Only real thing I have had to put much money on has been my front tie rods but that has more to do with MI roads!! :) But I am in love with car! I love it and suggest it to any person!! Or at least this model/year.

OMG I love this car!
It has now about 102k, bought it at 100k. Despite some age related problems and the fact that the preowner obviously never took care of it, it works great so far.
The drive is extremely smooth and before my oxygen sensor broke (which already lasted 40k longer than recommend to exchange) it had a great gas mileage.
I own a V6 SLE and the pick up is not strong anymore, I also think its just an airflow problem related to the oxygen sensor though.
Overall as long as the car got a decent maintenance it is awesome and definitely worth its money! Despite the minor problems I do not regret to buy it at all.

I am a college student and got my 99 Solara used at about 70000 miles. It now has 172000 miles. So far I have had the tires replaced, lights kept going out but that is not a big issue, and had my rear brakes replaced. Besides that just the normal routine stuff. Overall I have really enjoyed this car. It looks sharp, had a lot of spunk to it and has taken a lot of travel and abuse from what is expected from a poor college student. My transmission has just gone out though and I am looking at spending 1500 dollars for a new one. That is why I am on here looking to see if it would be worth it for me to purchase a new transmission or scrap the car at 172K miles. ..... So far I think the new transmission might be worth it.

I have had no problems whatsoever with this car. Mine is a convertible. after 48,000, I now see that I have a small leak between the rubber and the window on the drivers side. The rubber has to be replaced. I owned it in Florida for 2 years and now in California so that hot sun didn't help this problem. I love my car!

Awesome car. takes a beating from the owner, (me) i hit everything. There always seems to be some electrical problem. Besides that, it runs great, looks good, and great gas mileage.

I love my 2006 Solara V-6 and have had no real problems other than routine things like brakes and tires, but when I took my car to the dealer for its 90,000 mile service they told me I needed a long list of other services like belt and spark plug replacements and fluid flushes that will cost around $2400 with the 90,000 mile service. That was quite a shock. Maybe I should trade it in for a new one.

overall its an excellent car, goog on gas and reliable. although when that check engine light comes on its most likely the air fuel ratio sensor that sits on top of the motor block. the cheapest u can get that part for is 160.10 from any toyota website. i was a toyota sales rep for 10 years. just go online and u can pretty much by genuine toyota partsonline on there website. don't go to the private auto parts stores they will charge you more money for that same part. one parts store had it listed for
