2005 Subaru Forester Problems
The front oxygen (air fuel ratio) sensor element may develop a crack, causing the Check Engine Light to illuminate. Subaru has recalled certain models to replace sensors that may fail. The Subaru service program number is WXW-80, this is not a government mandated recall.

the belt broke at highway speed. I heard no sounds of metal crashing. Is there a chance that replacing the timing belt will enable the engine to run? If the valves are only slightly bent, will the engine run? How can I determine if the engine is destroyed or can be salvaged. Dealer wants $50...
The dimming was gradual over a month or so but has now blanked out completely. Changed direction as usual until it disappeared.
2005 Subaru Forester Recalls
The front lower control arms may break at the hanger brackets due to corrosion. This corrosion is commonly a result of the hanger bracket being exposed to salty conditions, such as roads where salt is used as a snow melting agent. A broken control arm can result in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the affected control arms and rustproof or replace them as necessary. The Subaru recall number is WVX-34.

Stiff Ride, watch out for pot holes it's very stiff suspension. Great on flat road and handles well on smooth roads. This is our 2nd Subaru that we bought new, (1995+2005). I think an above average car. Still, I think all of us would like to think that our cars would be exceptional (In the car reviews we only see a few that stand out with low maintenance.) Leather seats...
