1993 Mercury Sable ProblemsBlown/Cracked Head Gasket Can Cause White Smoke From Exhaust
White smoke coming from the exhaust could indicate that a head gasket has blown or there is a cracked cylinder head. Our technicians tell us that removal and inspection of the cylinder heads will be required to confirm a crack is present.
Worn motor mounts can cause the motor to rise during acceleration, causing a clunking noise and possibly damaging the AC hoses. Damage to the AC hoses can cause a loss refrigerant resulting in no cold air from the AC. The motor mount will need to be replaced prior to repairing the damaged hose or the problem will continue.
While steering, if you hear a clunk or a rattle, or if you experience premature tire wear, this could indicate the inner tie rod ends are loose or worn and will require replacement.

1993 Mercury Sable RecallsFord Recalls 1986-1995 Vehicles for Corroded Subframe Mount Plate Nuts
Ford has recalled certain 1986-1995 Taurus and Mercury Sable models and 1988-1994 Lincoln Continental models in high corrosion, cold weather states because the rear subframe mount plate nuts may corrode and fail, causing the subframe to drop. If the subframe drops, loss of vehicle control and functionality can occur. Dealers will install subframe rear mount bolts, reinforcement plates, and plate nuts.
Ford has recalled certain 1993 Taurus and Mercury Sable vehicles in cold weather states for a concern with the front coil springs. In states with high corrosion rates, the front coil springs could develop cracks and fracture. If this happens, the front tires could be damaged, causing a possible loss of vehicle control. Dealers will install shields on the front coil springs to prevent the front tires from being contacted in the event of spring breakage.
Ford has extended the warranty on the front coil springs on 1993 Taurus and Mercury Sable vehicles registered or sold in cold weather corrosion states. This is in conjunction with a safety recall to protect tires in the event of spring failure. In the event of fracture through the year 2001, dealers will replace both front springs.
