Question Asked: Manifold question Part 2
February 25, 2013, 04:38 PM
The new manifold is in-I do not note any leaks around the perimeter.Yet,the car is still leaking antifreeze at the rear, and dripping below the clutch.(Prior to the manifold replacement,it leaked by the thermostat and I suspected somewhere at the rear of the motor.
Any ideas? Given the tight motor fit,it's hard for a driveway guy to diagnose.
Question Asked: Intake manifold question
February 15, 2013, 06:03 PM
Mine has become a leaker, a common occurence for a 4.6 motor,I understand.I'll be using a new oem for replacement.Any kinks in doing this job? What torque do I use to reinstall the bolts?Thank you.
Question Asked: Door hinge?
July 20, 2012, 01:56 PM
Any cure for these hinges that use elastomer instead of springs? They usually fail to hold a heavy door open on the slightest slope, the second Ford that I've had with this issue-it is not worn, just a crappy design.
Question Asked: PCM relay?
July 08, 2012, 12:21 PM
Will a bad fuel pump also trip this relay?
Car drops dead, fuel pressure is definitely there after the car sits(don't know if it's there at dropping time)
Car has no spark, but if it sits longer, will start up fine.
Question Asked: Crank sensor? Car dropping dead?
July 03, 2012, 01:44 PM
Long story story,(I'll skip having towed twice)the car dies in traffic, scans a bad sensor, the reason it lost spark. It's replaced, and the car still drops. The mechanic now feels that it was the wiring harness, and it's connection, says he doctored it,but I should drive too far until the fix is confirmed.
My question: Can the harness connection be replaced?Am I'm better off sticking with OEM sensors, etc? I'll probably get rid of the car-I don't trust it to be reliable, but I hate to quit on a car that runs so nicely and has so many new parts.
(btw,fuel pressure is aok)
Question Asked: Strut replacement?
June 26, 2012, 03:25 PM
Is this as easy as I'm imagining?
Remove the top mounting bolts, loosen the clamp at the bottom, and misc attachments, and it just pulls out of the control arm with enough clearance? Then I put in a quick strut or have my auto parts shop replace the strut unit itself?
Question Asked: Axle shafts and ball joint?
April 17, 2012, 04:30 PM
My outer boot is leaking, the ball joint boot is shreds.(Both may have been damaged when thew transmission was replaced recently)
To put in a reman shaft,am I missing anything other than proper support of parts, remove large nut on axle end,nut on ball joint, and knock lower control arm loose?
For the ball joint,is it a press fit,or can that be just knocked out too?
Question Asked: Remote key programing?
February 12, 2012, 03:12 PM
I was given a new one. What is the procedure for programing for my car? ..Something like turn the ignition key on and off seven times?
Question Answered: Are there any repair shops that take payments for desired work?
July 10, 2012, 02:42 PM
Unless you already have an established relationship with someone,I think not.I suppose that you could ask the local guys.A big chain might suggest one of their own credit cards, but if you don't qualify for that,or don't have an existing card, that would be a red flag. Not many want to speculate with their labor or parts expense.....at least not in the car biz.
Question Answered: Should I sell or junk my Ford Escort?
July 04, 2012, 06:47 AM
I would imagine a very small market for an old Escort with high miles, but if you think it is still reliable, you might think about selling it.
The car is probably worth about 200 to a salvage or scrap metal dealer.I'm in Huntington, and Gershow Scrap Metal might pay you about that for the car.Simply so much per pound.
Question Answered: getting code P0300 - car makes a whirring noise and shuts down at any speed
July 03, 2012, 08:27 AM
I'm living this nightmare right now.Tried to limp home after being stranded on the LIE on Friday at rush hour in 90+ degree weather-couldn't make it,so needed a pricey tow.The mechanic first diagnosed it as a crankshaft sensor. The car left me a second time-this time he says it's a bad coil module.Intemittently losing spark. No sputter-just dies instantly, and will restart after it sits for a while.
Update: Not the coil-the problem still there after a new coil..He's a bit stumped-thinks it's the connection from the harness to the crank sensor.Scan still indicates faulty sensor. He doctored the connection-fingers are crossed.
Question Answered: my transmission wont change gears
June 20, 2012, 05:04 AM
I had the same issue a few months ago with my 2002.Not a thing that can be remedied with the trans in the car,and with the labor factor so high with removing it,I simply paid the big bucks,as in 3500,to have my local Ford dealer install a remanufactured unit.Just repairing the problem would have been over 2k,so that didn't make sense on a high mileage car.I like the car,it is well maintained, suits my purpose perfectly,so I put the money into it.Time will tell if it was a good investment.
My understanding is that there is a piston inside that is prone to breaking, causing this problem.
Question Answered: Where can I get a throttle body
June 16, 2012, 04:49 AM
Go to your local dealer for an oem, there are also a few Ford delaers that discount online.I don't think an aftermarket exists, but I could be wrong-I've never needed to replace one,and I'vd driven Tauruses for hundreds of thousands.
I would want a second opinion before replacting it.
Car Review: 2002 Ford Taurus
September 23, 2011, 08:56 PM
I think this is the best car that I've ever had.No major repairs,or anything out of the ordinary except a few parts, such as a motor mount and the top of the rear shocks, rusted away to nothing. The car is driven for work, but has been highly maintained with regard to replacing ALL fluids, etc.Currently have 168k on it.Runs great, still looks good.I've sold my other Taurus wagons before 100 k,except a 91 which was donated at about 163K.Five in the family over the years. If Ford offered a similar wagon, I might go it,but they don't,so I'll keep driving this one.If it dies,I'll buy an Escape.
