Known Problems

Problems with the anti-theft systems using the raised-chip key can prevent the car from starting. The wires in the steering column to the ignition lock cylinder tend to break. The the key and ignition lock cylinder must be replaced to correct this condition.

One or more of the power window regulators (one in each door) may fail causing the window to fall into the door and not roll up.

The auto level ride compressor may fail causing the rear of the vehicle to ride to high or too low.

The engine may develop an oil leak from the lower crankcase portion of the engine block. Our technicians tell us that the engine must be removed from the vehicle to properly repair this oil leak.

The throttle position sensor (TPS) on the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid is notorious for failure which causes:

This issue is related to the throttle position sensor on the gasoline engine, and can be caused by faulty wiring to the TPS, bad connection at the TPS, or a failed TPS. Note, this does not affect the hybrid drive system.

To correct this issue, the wiring harness, connector, and throttle position sensor must be inspected, tested, and/or replaced. The most common cause is a faulty TPS.

It is common for the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank read the fuel level incorrectly. The sensor must be replaced to correct the condition. Our technicians recommend having the complete fuel pump module replaced on high mileage vehicles.

The timing belt idler and/or tensioner pulley may fail, resulting in server engine damage. Cadillac has recalled certain 1997-2001 models to replace the timing belt and other related components as necessary.

The torque converter clutch (TTC) may stop working due to an internal transmission failure. The Check Engine Light will illuminate if this occurs. Our technicians tell us the transmission will require dis-assembly to correct this concern.

The high-pressure power steering lines are known to leak.

A loose or worn gas cap could be cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate.

It is not uncommon for the sunroof to work incorrectly or not at all.

The oil pressure switch and timing cover gasket may develop an engine oil leak.

The front or rear differential may develop an abnormal noise due to worn bearings or another internal fault. Our technicians tell us that a complete overhaul of the affected differential is commonly necessary to correct this condition.

Water may be drawn into the secondary air injection (AIR) pump causing the pump to fail and the Check Engine Light to illuminate. Our technicians tell us there is a kit available from General Motors to relocate the air intake for the pump which should prevent future damage from water intrusion.

The front and rear light bulbs are prone to premature failure. Our technicians tell us that the front bulbs can be very difficult to replace.
