2009 Honda Civic Repair and Maintenance

A guide to problems, costs, maintenance and repair for your 2009 Honda Civic

2009 Honda Civic Problems

Airbag Light Due to Failed Occupant Position Sensor

The airbag warning light (SRS) may illuminate due to a defective occupant position sensor. Honda has a recall campaign to replace defective sensors on affected cars.

Power Window Switch May Fail

On Certain models a faulty power window switch can cause the power windows to work or not work intermittently.

Possible Shift Control Solenoid Fault

The shift control solenoid externally mounted on the automatic transmission (non CVT) can fail and causes a harsh 1-2 shift. Replacing the shift solenoid and flushing the transmission with genuine Honda automatic transmission fluid may eliminate harsh shifting characteristics. A broken internal spring can cause the same issue. If the shift control solenoid does not repair the problem, the transmission will have to be replaced.

2009 Honda Civic Reviews

Bought Brand New and I only have sixty thousand miles on light use. Air-condition gave way, cabin light replaced, tirod replaced twice, switch on power window on the drivers side replaced, Crack on plastic the driver's air bag replaced, front brak...
Front brakes gone after 20,000 miles of mostly highway driving. That's outrageous, should last 40,000 miles or more. Honda just says, "Yeah we know about problems with the brakes on 2009 Accords, but Civics are fine". I don't buy that.
Computer program for antilock brakes is dicey.. my wife had a low speed accident because the brake pedal would not push down.....
