Question Asked: Car not starting- not cranking... and where to find good quality multi-meters
May 27, 2014, 08:42 AM
No noise made when turning key other than a 'click' or two. Engine does not crank. Charged the battery- 12.5V, still no crank or start (all day, overnight & next morn’). Mechanic came to house 4mos ago in Marion County, FL & sold me a $100. “Professional Battery” saying the cells were dead in mine. I asked if alternator was drawing too much charge on battery: he said no. I asked if starter, ignition &/or switch, cylinders, tumblers, solenoid may be problem: he said no. I was in a ‘spot’, needed transportation, bought battery. Problem was seemingly fixed very temporarily. Then after few days, same problem kept happening intermittently over the next 2mos.
Mechanic in Orlando, FL had the car every day for 1mo (while I was away) and said he couldn't replicate the problem-- it wasn't happening to him (cold start, running for long time, all times of day). He said it started perfectly for him every time. This was very hard to imagine since it was happening very frequent to me.
Upon my return, problem started happening again to me every time I get into it since I've been back x1 week now.
Could it be the starter, ignition &/or switch, or the cylinders, tumblers or solenoid?
PLEASE HELP...I have appointments, interviews, etc... THANK YOU for your time and assistance… Please answer with tools needed, types of meters needed…Thanks!
RepairPal Answers last night: Yes, it could be starter, cylinder, tumblers… maybe a new key. (Need a multi-meter to check these things)
My Q: Where is the best place to find a good quality multi-meter at lowest cost? What other tools do I need to fix this myself and what is the estimated time it takes to fix this?
THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR YOUR VALUED TIME AND ASSISTANCE!!
Question Asked: Crhyser T/C 2004 not starting: see previous 2 Q's

Could your RepairPal (Problems/my model & yr) be the problem? Below:
Intermittently, the key may not start the car or release from the ignition. If it is excessively worn, replace the key. If the new key doesn't work, replacing the lock cylinder including tumblers should correct this concern.
Question Asked: see prior Q re: not starting
May 26, 2014, 10:36 AM
some answers given thus far on Google:
...make sure the black wire comin' off the battery goes to chassis ground and has a "clean spot" to be bolted to? Where is chassis?
...connection to the starter, the connection to the motor block too? Please explain.
...If you tried jump starting with no luck, it's not the battery. Either something is not allowing the signal from the ignition switch to the starter or the starter is hanging up. Next time it happens, hook a meter to the small wire on the starter. If it has voltage when the key is turned to start, the starter is bad. You should hook the wire up in advance so you don't get all dirty when you're late for work.
(What kind of meter do I need to check this? Do you concur with Google advice?) PLEASE HELP...

RE-posting from Oct 22/2013 b/c i didn't see answer yet.
•water leak onto front passenger side compartment/floor-board when a/c is being used.
I saw the comment advising to use a foam sealant around HVAC unit IF leaking... Do I have to take the dash apart to get to it? Is there possibly a plastic part that may have broken? THANKS for your advice! Can i just pull up thick black capet-like material to find leak?
Problem Reported: Water Leak Due to HVAC Case Not Sealed at Bulkhead
September 15, 2010, 10:08 PM

If the HVAC (heater) housing is not properly sealed at the bulkhead (firewall), water can leak into the passenger compartment. Foam sealant should be used to seal any gaps and the evaporator drain tube can be modified to prevent further water entry.
