Gently pry the message center up and away from the dashboard. Unplug the connector and press the message center back down until you are ready to plug it back in.

There is a gentleman in Texas that sells a customized ballast for the neon tail light. Many of us have used it and it is excellent. Comes complete with do it yourself instructions. I have had mine in for about a year and a half without any issues. You can contact him at He sells the unit for about $90.00. Search "Glitch" at and see what other users have to say. I am not related or affiliated with "Glitch", just a satisfied customer that wants to help other Mark VIII owners. You can also search your problem there. There is a mesh inside your light housing that is used for noise suppression for the radio, it can "fall" and cause a ground problem with the reflective coating in the light also.
