Actions
Replacing the engine coolant and inspection of the cooling system.

Why This Is Needed

  • Engine coolant breaks down over time, becomes contaminated, and loses its ability to properly protect the engine
  • Failure to change the coolant can lead to issues such as overheating, excessive sludge/metal buildup, and failed seals

More Information
Most engine coolant is ethylene glycol-based and is usually put in the vehicle with a 50/50 mixture of water and coolant. The mixture helps to raise the boiling point and lower the freezing point of the coolant in the engine and radiator. Coolant has the properties to transfer heat through the radiator efficiently while lubricating any internal seals. It also helps to suspend any particles to keep the system clean. The coolant should be checked for the proper hydrometer reading (gravity) every service and changed when indicated.
