Ford Focus Repair and Maintenance

A guide to problems, costs, maintenance and repair for your Ford Focus

Warped front brake rotors may cause the steering wheel to shimmy when the brakes are applied. Our technicians tell us the brake rotors and pads should  be replaced to correct this concern.

The rear driverside door would not stay shut. We tried everything but the latch would not latch. We ended up taking it to our mechanic and he had to replace the entire latch mechanism. This should never happen considering that this door is hardly used and the car only has 37000 miles on it.

In areas of high corrosion rear wheel bearings tend to fail. Ford agreed to replace these failed bearings at no cost. This program was to expire on December 31, 2002. Our technicians tell us it is unlikely Ford will replace any more of these failed bearings free of charge.

The fuel delivery module may crack, resulting in lower than needed fuel pressure. This can cause the engine to stall. Dealers will replace the fuel delivery module free of charge to resolve the concern.

The steering gear transmits the motion from the steering wheel to the front wheels. These vehicles are being recalled because the steering gear may have been incorrectly assembled. As a result vehicle steering could be impaired, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the steering gear in the affected vehicles to correct this concern.

The engine may hesitate while driving and can stall due to a wiring issue to the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor in the engine management system. Dealers will replace the wiring splices in question free of charge to correct the problem.

Has anyone report an unsual increase in miles on the odometer

I have a 2003 Focus. I love my car. It only has 68,000 miles on it as I don't travel a lot. I have had only one problem. The ignition switch locked and I had to have a locksmith remove a small part inside the cylinder. That was not expensive. I found out what to do from checking the internet. Lots of luck to the rest of my fellow Focus owners. I hope you are as happy with your car as I am.
