13 Best Spotify Driving Playlists

Music and driving go together like peanut butter and jelly. They might even be a better pair, as it's difficult to have a good drive without a good song accompanying it. I'll never forget when my car radio fizzled out on me for a week and I experienced the sad, quiet times of driving for a long distance with nothing but my cell phone playing music on the passenger seat.

These days, connecting your phone's music to your car is second nature. Whether your car boasts built-in Bluetooth capabilities, an auxiliary jack, or just a device you grabbed off of Amazon to wirelessly hook-up, your driving tunes are 100% necessary to a good trip.

Just like everything in life, listening to the same old, same old can get, well, old. That's why we decided to scour Spotify for some of the best driving playlists we could find.

Did we miss one you love? Tell us in the comments below!

For when you're cruising down the long stretch of highway...

1. Coastal Drive by Spotify

Picture this: you're cruising down Highway 1 with the open road ahead and the Pacific Ocean to your right. With "Wildflowers" by Tom Petty coming through the speakers, this might just be the perfect day...

2. Midnight Drive by Kalyn Nicholson

Don't be fooled by the name of this playlist – this one's perfect for the daytime too. I highly recommend "ocean eyes" by Billie Eilish for a change of pace while you cruise.

3. Night Drive by Nisseknudsen

Night Drive features a collection of raspy vocals and gorgeous ballads to get you through a long drive. Listen to "Cherry Wine (live)" by Hozier for the stretch ahead.

For when you need to seriously rock out behind the wheel...

4. Driving Rock Anthems by Filtr UK

Where to even start? People have been driving to these songs for decades. It's genuinely impossible to go wrong with "Mustang Sally" by Buddy Guy coming through the speakers.

5. Driving Through The Years by Spotify

With some rock classics mixed together with early 2000s hits, there's something for everyone to tap along to. Be sure to blast "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes.

6. Alt. Rock Road Trip by Spotify

Any playlist that has "Left Hand Free" by alt-J towards the top is a playlist worth playing. The perfect blend of music to rock out to while you live life in the fast lane.

For when you're in the mood for newer, upbeat hits on your journey...

7. Driving songs by benjaminday32

Sometimes you just want to hear something new that doesn't always fall into the radio pop hits catagory. The Driving songs playlist gives you just that without all the extras. Jam out to "Stargazing" by Kygo when you get in the car.

8. Driving music by Playlistr.us

Maybe those radio hits are actually what you're looking for – without all the commercials of course. It's almost impossible to not sing along to "Havana" by Camila Cabello at this point, so just let it go next time you're behind the wheel.

For when you just want the perfect mix of tunes for the road ahead...

9. Driving Commute by Spotify

A great mix of music spanning the decades, Driving Commute will give you everything from "Mr. Brightside" by the Killers to "S.O.B." by Nathaniel Rateliff and the Nightsweats.

10. Heartland Drive by Spotify

Don't think I forgot about the perfect music for driving through field after field – some great country. Heartland Drive brings together country hits with classic rock for the perfect mix of music to lose yourself in. Start out with "Traveller" by Chris Stapleton and go from there.

11. Morning Commute by Spotify

Featuring newer songs along with great beats you've never heard of, you can't go wrong with Morning Commute. Be sure to throw "Chateau" by Angus & Julia Stone on through your speakers.

For the ultimate serenade, jam-sesh while road-tripping...

12. Road Trip Sing-Along Songs by Digster Playlists

My commentary on this playlist is all the words to Smash Mouth's "All Star".

13. Sing-along: 90s to Now by Spotify

Although exhausted when these songs first came out, there's something great about knowing all the words to a song you completely forgot about. I'm in the camp that no car ride is complete without "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls.

For the commuter who's trying to stay calm and relaxed...

14. Calm Classics by Peaceful Classics

Rounding off this list with the perfect music to relax you when that Prius cuts you off – Calm Classics. You can't go wrong with "Diana" by Aaron Zigman, where it doesn't take Mozart to hear the melancholy sounds that end in hopefulness through the piano keys.
