Tips To Stay Safe And Get The Most Out Of Your Black Friday This Year

November 22, 2016

Did you know there’s a spike in insurance claims that take place in parking lots during the holidays? Yikes! You may decide to stay in bed at home, or maybe participate in Cyber Monday from your computer, but if you do venture out on Black Friday, it’s important to stay safe, especially when you’re driving in the early morning hours of Friday or late on Thursday.

We've put together a list of Black Friday reminders to keep you and your loved ones safe while enjoying the holidays this year.

Be Alert

People are just as excited as you are to get to the place they need to be, but everyone needs to remember to stay extra alert in parking lots where ghost shopping carts with giant flat screens might come rolling straight at you! Grab that double shot venti mocha and get going. And if you’re starting early with deals on Thursday, make sure you’re not still in your turkey coma from hours before.

Go Slow

It can be fun to get caught up in the excitement, but the safer option is to take it slow through parking lots and on roadways. This gives you ample time to respond to cars slamming on their brakes and minivans zooming out of parking spots backward.

Stay Diligent

Try to refrain from loading your big ticket goodies into your trunk and cruising over to the next spot. We like to think people are kind and giving during the holidays, but you don’t want to give anyone a reason to break into your car and grab that 50” flat screen you just put away a second ago and then walked into the store to wait in line for an hour or two.

Be Positive

It can get stressful when someone grabs the parking spot you wanted or when you miss out on that deal you just woke up at the crack of dawn to get, but don’t let it get under your skin! Focus on the good stuff – the people who are way too excited about the towels they just scored, or the parents out early to get the Barbie Princess dream house that’s a must have for any 5 year old this year. Always stay positive – it will reflect in your driving and the rest of your holiday season!

Good luck, safe travels, and enjoy the deals!
