The RepairPal team is excited and honored to announce that Jill Trotta (RepairPal Jill) has been named the 2017 Auto Care Woman of Excellence by Women in Auto Care (formerly the Car Care Council Women’s Board).

Women in Auto Care annually honors deserving women in the industry with three Women of the Year Awards: Auto Care Woman of the Year, Female Shop Owner of the Year, and Auto Care Woman of Excellence. This is a prestigious award in the automotive industry, awarded to those who show not only excellence in their field, but also exhibit a dedication to supporting diversity in the industry.

We sat down one-on-one to talk to RepairPal Jill about what was going through her mind hearing she was the recipient of this award. “When Olivia called me I was blown away. There are so many very accomplished women in the industry – it was hard to believe that I was chosen. [The experience is] very overwhelming and humbling. There are many women that I look up to and strive toward achieving the things that they have achieved.”

“The people in the industry are what drive my passion. I don't think there’s an industry out there with people who work as hard as the people I know in the automotive industry. I value helping, meeting, and learning from shop owners on a daily basis.”

“It's a tough business, and I've been fortunate enough to be surrounded by the best of the best. People like Amy Mattinatt, Bogi Lateiner, Willian Nulu, Frank Butkus-Lutz, Judy Zimmerman, Rick Seneris and over 2000 other shop owners who make up our network. They keep me going and working to build bridges between consumers and shop owners. These are people who've dedicated themselves to doing it right. They really embody the "do good to do well" model that RepairPal does. I want them to know that RepairPal has their backs.

So what makes Jill “excellent” in her eyes? Her upbringing and being around other women who embody excellence every day. “From my Mom who is the original OG of Excellence, to the women she surrounded herself with, like Diane Gibson Grey, Dixie Pollard, Jackie Fry, and Darlene Frier to Pam Spence and Marilyn Brown who were Bay Area Shop Owners, to Jody Devere, who has open so many doors for so many women in this industry, to the over 300 women in Women in Auto Care who are examples of Excellence on a daily basis.”

Jill also credits her manager at RepairPal, Bret Bodas, the VP of the Automotive group for pushing her “on a regular basis out of my comfort zone” and “continually [pushing me] to be excellent (even when I don't want to, or I'm tired, or I feel defeated). I'm surrounded 360 degrees by excellence.”

Jill’s advice for women interested in other male-dominated industries? “It's always been my mantra to be gracious, but take no flack.”

“I'm quick to call out things that don't seem right, like discrimination and misogyny. It can be difficult for a woman to assert her voice, regardless of if the industry is male-dominated or not, but confidence and not doubting yourself is key to your career success. Surround yourself with excellent, inspiring people and be smart and secure in your voice.”

We’re incredibly proud to have Jill Trotta as Director of the Automotive Group at RepairPal and can’t wait to see what’s next for her and other inspiring women in the industry. Interested in talking with RepairPal Jill directly? Leave a comment below or tweet her at @RepairPal_Jill.
