Known Problems

Corrosion may develop at the connection between the ignition coil tower and spark plug wire resulting in an engine misfire. The Ignition coil and spark plug wire should both be replaced to correct this condition.

The fuel pump may fail causing engine to stall and not restart.

The mass air flow (MAF) sensor may fail, resulting in drivability issues and/or illumination of the Check Engine Light.

This engine may leak oil from the valve cover gasket.

Fuel injectors can short-circuit electrically causing a rougher than normal idle and reduced performance.

The transmission pressure control solenoid may fail causing erratic shifting. Our technicians tell us that partial dis-assembly of the transmission is necessary to replace a failed pressure control solenoid.

An engine oil leak may develop from the rear of the engine. This is commonly caused by a failed oil pump drive o-ring seal. The leaking o-ring should be replaced to correct this concern.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) can fail causing stalling, and engine and transmission drivability concerns.

The steering may develop a clunk type noise from the upper intermediate steering shaft.  Our technicians tell us that you should check with your local GM dealer to find out what the latest repair is for this condition.

Acid may leak from the battery at the cable connections, resulting in corrosion on the battery cable ends and in the battery tray. A Leaking battery should be replaced and the cables thoroughly cleaned or replaced if necessary.

The front struts may show signs of wear, or be excessively bouncy ride at freeway speeds. This may begin to occur at around 75,000 miles.

Body: A dirty throttle body may cause a lower than normal engine idle resulting in a stalling condition. A stalling condition may also result if an idle learn procedure is not performed if the battery goes dead or is disconnected.

Our technicians highly recommend that the transmission is serviced every 30,000 miles to avoid problems and maintain optimal operating order. If the fluid is dark in color, the transmission should be flushed.

The crankshaft position sensor, ignition module, and/or powertrain control module (PCM) may fail resulting in illumination of the Check Engine Light with ignition system related fault codes stored in the PCM. Patience is necessary when dealing with this specific situation as normal diagnostic procedures are not effective. In many cases, the best option is to replace parts, one at a time until the fault is corrected.

An engine oil leak may develop from the oil pump drive O-ring. This can often be confused with an intake manifold gasket leak. Careful inspection is required to determine the exact cause of the leak. Replacement of the failed 0-ring will commonly correct this concern.
