Diesel Injection Pump
The Diesel injection pump produces the high fuel pressure required by Diesel fuel injectors. Its shaft rotates in time with the engine, allowing it to send a high pressure fuel pulse to each injector at the proper time.
Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Diesel Injection Pump
- Engine may run roughly, or not at all
- Hard starting
- Engine misfires
- Lack of power
- Excessive smoke from the exhaust
Diesel Injection Pump Related Repair Advice
- The injection pump may fail if the fuel supply pump doesn't deliver the proper amount of fuel to the injection pump. Therefore, it's very important that the supply pump is checked and replaced if necessary.
- The injector pump may be incorrectly replaced when the problem is actually dirty fuel filter(s), low engine compression, worn out glow plugs, failed fuel supply pump, defective glow plug relay, improper injector pump timing, and/or poor fuel quality.
