The Jeep Cherokee and the Jeep Compass are both two-row SUVs made by Jeep. They both come with front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive. The Cherokee is a compact SUV, and is slightly larger than the Compass.
The standard engines in the Cherokee and the Compass are identical, with outputs of 180 horsepower for both. In the area of optional engines, the larger Cherokee offers a 271-horsepower engine. The Compass does not have an optional engine. So if you want more power than the base engine offers, the Cherokee is the only choice.
Looking at cargo space capacities, things are not quite what they might seem. The larger Cherokee, which has 54.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down, actually has less space than the Compass, which comes in with 59.8 cubic feet. The smaller Compass has much better space utilization.
Being Jeeps, both the Jeep Cherokee and the Jeep Compass possess superior off-road manners. Either will take you to the back country, and will get you home again.
Choosing between the Jeep Cherokee and the Jeep Compass comes down to power and your budget. If you need the extra power, then the Cherokee is the only choice. But if the base engine is enough for your needs, the Compass gives you more usable cargo space, for many thousands of dollars less. Try them both and then decide.
