The Ram 1500 and the Ford F-150 both sit atop the half-ton pickup truck sales standings. The F-150 has retained the top spot since 1977, but the Ram has held its own, occasionally climbing out of its traditional third-place spot to beat out the Chevy Silverado for second.
The Ram 1500 offers all of the traditional strengths that you might want when shopping for a pickup. It has a variety of powerful engines, the choice of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and a huge number of trim levels from work-truck simple to lavish luxury. It has also had something unique to a pickup truck: big-rig styling that tells you that the Ram is serious about performing its truck-related duties.
The Ford F-150 is both the sales leader and the trailblazer when it comes to pickup truck innovation. It has boldly adopted turbocharged V6 engines for improved fuel economy without power loss, and has completely switched to all-aluminum body construction to reduce overall weight. The F-150 also offers numerous configurations, a variety of power options and drive systems, and all the luxury and technology you care to add.
These are both top-shelf pickup trucks. The Ram 1500 does a little better than the Ford F-150 in terms of reliability ratings and average annual cost of repair. But we suggest that you take a close look at both, and see which one best addresses your needs.
