Toyota Announces Recall of 800,000 Vehicles

August 2, 2012

Toyota has announced the recall of nearly 800,000 vehicles. 760,000 2006 to early 2011 RAV4 and 18,000 Lexus HS 250h models.

Toyota has determined that excessive play can occur and rust may develop if the nuts securing a rear suspension arm are not tightened correctly during a rear wheel alignment service. If this were to occur, the threaded portion of the arm may wear and cause the arm to separate.

Because the remedy for this concern is still being developed by Toyota, no owner notification is being sent at this time. Owners are however, advised to contact their local Toyota dealer if they notice any abnormal noise from the rear suspension area.

RepairPal receives daily updates from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announcing all new recalls. From this information, we create easy to understand summaries which are contained in the Recalls section of our website. Email notification is also sent to owners of affected vehicles who have singed up for this service. If you would like to sign up to receive recall notifications for your car or light truck please visit the MyCar section of our website.

Toyota has taken the unusual step of announcing this recall before everything is in place for the government to do so. We will post the complete recall information and email you the info (if you sign up) as soon as the information becomes available.
