What makes a car the safest and highest rated?
According to IIHS, the criteria is broken down into three categories: crash tests, crash prevention, and headlights.
Crash tests are rated as “Good” depending on the driver and passenger side crash performances, as well as roof strength and head restraint tests.
Crash prevention with advanced driver assisted technologies such as AEB (automatic emergency braking) and pedestrian detection systems. Crash prevention is rated as “Advanced” or “Superior” during testing during vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian testing. Headlights are determined as “Good” or “Acceptable” during testing during vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian testing at night.
