The trans. may not shift out of 1st gear for several
drive times in a row , then it may not occur for several weeks. I have had to stop on the side of the road and turn it off for atleast 2 min. , then restart it, which will allow it to shift normal. I have had times when it wont reset for several hours after the drive time.I never get a diagnosis light,/ code.I changed the trans. with a working one, and It made no difference. then i changed the trans. control module, and it made no difference. thanks to whom ever can shed some light on this problem.
Question Answered: ENGINE SMOKING From my 1998 Eclipse.i just CHANGE the engine 2 weeks ago.

white smoke usually means steam,-- having a blown head gasket, or cracked engine block could be possible, smoke under the hood could possibly be from a leaking valve cover gasket causing oil to run,or be blown on to the exhaust manifold, and piping. You may want to have a thorough evaluation of the car/ engine done by another reputable mechanic or shop. running it any more can damage the engine irrevercibly. Dont forget to get it in writing, you may need it to help resolve $ issues.
Question Answered: flex plate replacement
October 29, 2010, 10:12 AM
You can get them from a used auto parts place (called a junk yard sometimes) near you, call first to save time and gas. another place for budget minded mechanics is in a "U PULLIT" used auto parts yard , if you are lucky enough to live near one. Be sure to inspect it for worn teeth and cracks in the inside areas of the flex plate. Be sure to pre mark the converter studs to the flex plate before reassembly ,as the spacing is different between each stud. good luck!
Question Answered: rough idling

A dirty throttle body can cause rough idle @ cold start ups, and cause sluggish performance, it will cause the computer to over compensate gas to the engine causing, sometimes a little smoking at the tail pipe. only use THROTTLE BODYspray cleaner .With the car off, remove the plastic air duct to the throttle body and open the throttle manually wide open by hand. then spray into the throttle body to remove the gummy residue as far back as you can see. then start the car,it may need reving up some to clear out the cleaner in it, then hold throttle barely open and spray cleaner into the throttle body, using short burst , be careful to not over rev engine, rev enough for it to clear out the sprayed cleaner. stop engine and reassemble ducting. I have found this to improve idle, (reduce raw gas smoke) and improve performance. you should use a good gas tmeatment additive every4 or 5 tanks of gas to help it from getting that bad again.
