Steering Rack Boot

The steering rack boot is an expandable rubber covering that creates a seal between the rack and pinion and the tie rod end. There is one on each end of the rack and pinion steering gear.

Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Steering Rack Boot

  • Cracking or splitting of the rubber boot
  • Boot may be oil soaked due to leak from power steering rack

Steering Rack Boot Related Repair Advice

  • Damaged boots should be replaced to help avoid dirt and debris damaging the steering rack
  • A four-wheel alignment should be performed after replacing a steering rack boot
