A guide to problems, costs, maintenance and repair for your GMC Jimmy

GMC Jimmy Problems

Check Engine Light With Code P1870

Vehicles equipped whit a 4 speed automatic transmission may develop a harsh 1-2 shift and/or illumination of the Check Engine Light with code P1870 stored. This can be caused by wear of the bore for the TCC isolator and regulator valves in the valve body. This condition does not commonly occur until the transmission reaches normal operating temperature. If the valve body is worn, replacement will be necessary to correct this concern.

Fuel Level Sensor Failure

It is common for the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank read the fuel level incorrectly. The sensor must be replaced to correct the condition. Our technicians recommend having the complete fuel pump module replaced on high mileage vehicles.

ABS Light Due to Brake System Control Unit Failure

The Anti-lock brake system (ABS) control unit may fail internally causing the ABS warning light to illuminate.

I have 2000 GMC SLE Jimmy which I bought new. It's been nothing but a nightmare since I've owned it. I've changed the water pump 3 times. A defective radiator seal caused fluid to leak in the oil compartment which cost over $1000 to repair. The A/C condenser coil water leaks on the passenger carpet and the GMC dealership NEVER correctly addressed this problem, while it was still under warranty....
