Crankshaft

The crankshaft is a long, steel shaft that transfers the up-and-down motion of the pistons and connecting rods into rotational motion.

Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Crankshaft

  • Knocking noise from engine
  • Low engine oil pressure

Crankshaft Related Repair Advice

  • If a crankshaft or connecting rod bearing fails, the crankshaft should be thoroughly inspected before reuse
  • In some cases, a failed crankshaft can be repaired or replaced. However, on higher mileage vehicles, engine replacement is often recommended.
