Cooling Fan Clutch

The cooling fan clutch connects the mechanical cooling fan to the belt-driven pulley. The fan clutch disengages the fan when engine temperature is low and engages the fan when engine temperature is high.

Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Cooling Fan Clutch

  • Engine overheating
  • Excessive cooling fan noise
  • Illumination of the Check Engine Light
  • The cooling fan clutch can be mechanical or electronically controlled
  • The cooling fan clutch should be inspected for proper operation whenever a cooling system repair is performed
