Known Problems

The fuel gauge may read incorrectly. Our technicians tell us there is a recalibration procedure which should be performed to correct this issue.

The center multi-function display may failure. This is commonly caused by poorly soldered internal connection. Our technicians tell us that these display panels can be successfully repaired or reconditioned by a shop specializing in such repairs.

A no start or loss of power issue may develop if debris falls into the mass air flow sensor when changing or inspecting the air filter. Care should be taken when changing of replacing the air filter in order to avoid this issue.

The hybrid transmission may fail prematurely. Our technicians recommend changing the transmission fluid every 30K miles in order to help prolong transmission life. There is a small square pan on the bottom of the transmission which should be removed to allow more fluid to drain. This service recommendation is over and above the Toyota recommendation to "check" the transmission fluid every 30k miles.

Premature tire wear is an concern due to the soft rubber compounds specified for original equipment tires. Our technicians tell us that most owners have changed to better wearing tires but fuel mileage has suffered as a result.

Starting difficulties may develop, mostly noted if the car has been parked for several days. Toyota has changed the 12v battery size specification to help correct this concern. Our technicians tell us the battery tray will need to be replaced to accommodate the larger battery

The high voltage hybrid battery may develop corrosion of the electrical harness resulting in premature failure. Our technicians tell us the hybrid battery must be replaced to correct this issue.

The fuel tank used a unique liner which has caused trouble in some vehicles. If problems occur with the fuel tank liner the fuel tank must be replaced.
