1990 Dodge Dynasty Problems
Engine oil leaks from cam plug and seal, valve cover, head gasket, and distributor
Oil leaks may develop from the camshaft plug, camshaft seal, valve cover, cylinder head gasket, and distributor.
Rattle noise from rear brake pads
Engine Knock After Cold Start May Not Be a Concern
Some engines may experience a cold engine knock that lasts for three to five minutes after start-up, which is often misdiagnosed as a valve lifter noise. This noise is commonly not an indication of a failure and should not be a reliability or durability concern.
Replace timing belt at 60,000 miles in hot climates
Timing belt replacement should be done at 60K intervals or sooner in very hot climates. The timing belt tensioner pulley should be replaced any time the timing belt is replaced.
Oil leaks from cam plugs and seals, valve covers, crank seal, and oil filter bracket
Excess oil comsumption due to valve guide issues
Excessive oil consumption—defined as more than one quart per 1,000 miles (on vehicles with less than 50,000 miles) or more than one quart per 750 miles (on vehicles with more than 50,000 miles)—is common. Replacing the valve guides with an updated version should fix the problem.
Testing for excessive bleed down from valve lash adjusters
Squeeking noise from exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe sealing ring
Replace fuel filter if fuel pump is replaced
Fuel pump failures are not uncommon on higher mileage cars. Our technicians recommend to replace the fuel filter if the fuel pump is being replaced.
Erratic idle due to faulty idle air control motor
Vacuum hoses or electrical connectors may cause drivability issues
It is not unusual for engine vacuum hoses or sensor electrical connectors to cause driveability concerns and/or the Check Engine Light to illuminate.
Fuel leak from injectors or their O-rings
Fuel injectors or their o-rings may leak fuel causing the engine to burn too much fuel.
Stalling or "no start" issues due to faulty distributor pickup plate
Driveability concerns due to intake valve deposits
Various driveability concerns can be caused by deposits on the back of the intake valves. Fuel injector cleaner has shown reasonable results cleaning light deposits.
