Known Problems

If you experience rough shift and/or shuddering during gear shifting, software updates to the powertrain control and transmission control modules (PCM and TCM) are available which may address these problems. On higher mileage vehicles, a mechanical failure may exhibit similar symptoms. Proper diagnoses should be performed before any repairs or software upgrades are attempted.

Spilling beverages around the cup holder may cause the lid to stick or bind.

Rear differential and axle seals are prone to repeated leaks.

The thermostat may fail to close completely, causing the Check Engine Light to illuminate. This problem will prevent the engine from reaching normal operating temperature; a new thermostat should be installed.

There may be an intermittent three- to five-second delay between when you turn the key and when the engine actually cranks. If the Check Engine Light illuminates, the brake switch should be inspected and the PCM may need updated software.

"False" trouble codes may cause erroneous illumination of the Check Engine Light. Updating the PCM software can often correct this concern.

Some vehicles may develop a musty odor coming from the HVAC system, Dodge has issued a cleaner/disinfectant and a coating for the evaporator designed to inhibit bacterial growth.

Software updates are available which may correct various electrical problems with the interior features and lighting.

A squeak may be heard from the base of the steering column while turning the steering wheel. The noise may be coming from the lower seal on the steering shaft. Lubrication of the seal will commonly correct this problem.

One or more of the power windows may become inoperative, it is commonly caused by failure of the window motor or a cable in the window regulator. The window motor & regulator may need to be replaced as assembly.

A harsh 4-3 downshift or other shift quality issues may develop. Revised transmission control module (TCM) software has been released to address these concerns.

The fuel tank may become hard to fill and/or the fuel fill nozzle may shut off repeatedly while fueling. Our technicians tell us that various items including the fuel tank, vapor recirculation tube, fuel fill tube, or EVAP system canister control valve may be at fault. Proper diagnoses will be required to determine the exact cause of this concern.

A transmission fluid leak can develop at the electrical connector on the automatic transmission. Replacement of the electrical connector may be necessary to correct the leak.

A whine type noise may develop form the engine area when the car is idling (typically in warmer temperatures, after the engine has warmed up). It's possible that the noise may be from the engine oil system and is harmless. Still, have a technician verify that the noise is nothing to worry about.
