The composite (plastic) intake manifold may crack near the thermostat housing and cause a coolant leak. Ford released an updated manifold that was reinforced to prevent a recurrence. No recall was issued for this problem but Ford did extend the warranty to seven years on some models from the date of purchase.

An oil leak may develop from the the right side head gasket. Oil from this type of leak will commonly drip onto the starter. Our technician tell us an updated head gasket is available to correct this concern.
Exhaust manifold gaskets need to be replaced around 100,000 give or take. They just go on these cars, more on passenger side-
Starter failed on my 2001 crown victoria, Dec' 2011. Car would produce one loud click (the pinion bearing coming out), but not turn over. After several attempts it would eventually turn over. Battery is six years old so it's not putting out as well as it use to... Pulled the starter out (3 bolts, what a PAIN.. hint: use a 1/4" socket wrench for the top bolt!) and tested with just battery, same problem. Had it tested at the auto parts store...
