Known Problems

The exterior door handles are of poor quality; they frequently break or do not offer enough leverage to open the door from the outside.

The rear self-leveling suspension is problematic and very expensive to repair. A retrofit kit is available to convert this suspension back to conventional shock absorbers and springs.

To avoid excess play and wear problems, the front wheel bearings should be periodically inspected and serviced.

The front spindle the wheel bearing is mounted on may wear requiring replacement.

The upper bushings on the front shock absorbers are prone to failure and may produce a rattling/jingling noise as the car is driven over bumps.

A growling noise may be noticed on deceleration from higher speeds. This type of noise is commonly caused by a bearing failure in the rear differential. Replacement of the rear differential is often necessary to correct this problem.

The brake pressure accumulator, a component of the antilock brake system, frequently fails. This may cause a stiff brake pedal, forcing the driver to apply excess pedal pressure to slow down or stop the vehicle.
